100 Jahre Velo Rüegg Steinhausen, Zug

The spring exhibition 2019 is all about «100 years of Velo-Rüegg Steinhausen»

If you look at the history of the company, it begins in 1919. The grandfather of the current owner was mechanical professional and worked at the time in the Landis & Gyr in Zug. Due to economic reasons, he opened in the former milk collection station in Steinhausen a small repair store for bicycles as a side business. This was a real need in those days and in 1923, he bought a piece of land on Bahnhofstrasse. With much enthusiasm and hard work, even during the war years, he led the business with his wife.

In 1946, her eldest son Toni entered the business as a full-time employee. Repairing and selling bikes did not provide enough revenue to support the family in their 50s and 60s. As a next step, mechanical machineries were purchased and thanks to contract work with other companies as well as the production of Tell's weapon, the crossbow, the company survived. Due to the great commitment of his wife, a second, season-independent business was opened at the end of the 60s. For decades, they have worked together to build up the Rüegg 2-Rad & Baby Center with a great deal of energy and wise decision-making. More and more customers from all over Central Switzerland found their way to Steinhausen and appreciated the wide selection as well as the client-centric expert advices.

Simultaneously with the takeover by the third generation of the family, the new building at the existing location, Bahnhofstrasse in Steinhausen, was put into operation. Since then, the focus is on both the 2-wheel and the Baby center, concentrating especially on the needs for families. From the stroller to the e-bike, the wide range of the range extends to around 800m2. Thanks to long-time employees, the high level of expertise has been improved years by year. But not only long-standing and loyal customers visit the family center, more people from all over the world, who appreciate the warm atmosphere and the friendly and competent service.

The spring exhibition is now a good moment to celebrate the 100-year-anniversary. If you would like to take a non-binding test drive with an e-bike or your child needs a new bike, then visit the Rüegg 2-wheel & baby center on the weekend of 16 and 17 March. Take part in the competition with many great prizes: The main prize is a retro bike to celebrate the anniversary.
